What is a laser-sintered screw-retained implant crown?
A screw-retained implant crown is an implant restoration fixed directly to the implant with a screw rather than with cement. For this service, the framework is produced from cobalt-chromium (Cr-Co) alloy by laser sintering and then veneered with porcelain. The screw access is usually placed on the occlusal or palatal surface and sealed with composite.
Indications
Screw retention is an advantage in any case where access to the restoration may be needed later. Because the crown can be removed, it can be taken out without damage for screw checks, soft-tissue care or repairs. As there is no risk of residual cement below the gingiva, it is also preferred for peri-implant tissue health.
- Single implant crowns in the posterior region
- Implant cases with limited interocclusal space
- Deeply placed implants where a cement-free solution is required
- Patients for whom future retrievability is important
Material and manufacturing process
The implant position is captured with a scan body or impression coping, and the data is matched to the implant library in 3Shape or Exocad. The framework is designed to work with the connection component suited to the implant system; the screw channel position, porcelain support and emergence profile are planned at the same stage. The framework is laser-sintered from Cr-Co alloy, the surface is prepared, and porcelain layers are fired in an Ivoclar Vivadent Programat P300 furnace. Finally, the screw channel is cleaned and passive fit and occlusion are checked.
Why Marjinal CAD?
In screw-retained restorations, a passive fit of the framework is decisive for long-term success. At Marjinal CAD, we design directly on implant libraries and verify the connection area and screw channel angle before production. Since the laser-sintered framework is produced directly from digital data, shrinkage and porosity associated with casting are eliminated. For areas with high aesthetic demands, we are happy to discuss a zirconia alternative with you.
Sending your case
- Intraoral scan: Send the scan taken with the scan body in place from your iTero, 3Shape TRIOS or Medit scanner as STL/PLY files, along with a soft-tissue profile scan, the opposing arch and a bite registration.
- Conventional impression: Send an impression taken with impression copings or a model with analogues; our dental laboratory scans it into the digital workflow.
Please state the implant brand, system, platform diameter, shade and preferred screw access position on the prescription. Questions: +90 542 329 30 56 or [email protected].
Frequently asked questions
What are the advantages of a screw-retained over a cemented implant crown?
A screw-retained crown is retrievable, which simplifies maintenance and repair. There is also no risk of residual cement below the gingiva.
Does the screw access affect aesthetics?
The screw access is usually positioned on the occlusal or palatal surface and sealed with composite. Its position is checked during design.
Why use a laser-sintered framework?
A laser-sintered framework is produced directly from the digital design. There is no casting shrinkage or porosity, and the result is reproducible.
Which implant details should I include on the prescription?
The implant brand, system, platform diameter and scan body type are required. We also recommend stating the shade and preferred screw access position.
