Digital Implant Zirconia

From scan body to zirconia restoration in one digital workflow

  • Digital capture with scan bodies
  • Design on implant libraries
  • Screw-retained or cement-retained
  • Metal-free aesthetics
  • Custom emergence profile

What is digital implant zirconia?

Digital implant zirconia refers to implant-supported crowns and bridges made of zirconia that are designed entirely digitally after the implant position has been captured with a scan body. The design is carried out on the library of the implant system in use, so the connection geometry, emergence profile and occlusion are planned within one data set.

Indications

This solution covers a wide range of indications, from single-tooth gaps to multi-unit implant bridges. The biocompatibility and metal-free structure of zirconia help prevent a grey shimmer in the gingival area, particularly in patients with a thin gingival phenotype.

  • Single implant crowns
  • Multi-unit implant-supported bridges
  • Cases in the aesthetic zone requiring a metal-free solution
  • Practices working with intraoral scanning and a fully digital workflow

Material and manufacturing process

The scan body data is matched to the implant library in 3Shape or Exocad, and the implant position is transferred to the digital model. Depending on the clinical situation, the restoration is planned as screw-retained (zirconia bonded to a titanium base) or cement-retained on a custom abutment. The emergence profile is shaped to support the soft tissue, and the angle and position of the screw channel are checked. The restoration is milled from a zirconia disc on an Arum 5-axis CAD/CAM unit and sintered; in the aesthetic zone it is characterised with stains or ceramic layering where needed, and then glazed.

Why Marjinal CAD?

Accuracy in implant prosthetics starts with correct matching of the scan. At Marjinal CAD, we work with implant libraries in 3Shape, Exocad and Dentalwings and verify the screw channel and connection area during design. Where required, we can plan the restoration together with a titanium premill custom abutment. If we notice missing or unclear data, we contact you before production starts.

Sending your case

  • Intraoral scan: Send the scan taken with the scan body in place from your iTero, 3Shape TRIOS or Medit scanner as STL/PLY files. Please also include a scan of the soft-tissue profile, the opposing arch and a bite registration.
  • Conventional impression: Send an implant impression taken with impression copings, or a model with analogues; it will be scanned and brought into the digital workflow.

Always state the implant brand, system, platform diameter and scan body type on the prescription. Reach our dental lab on +90 542 329 30 56 or at [email protected].

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to send for a digital implant case?

A scan with the scan body in place, a soft-tissue profile scan, the opposing arch and a bite registration. On the prescription, state the implant brand, system, platform diameter and scan body type.

Should I choose screw-retained or cement-retained?

Screw-retained restorations are retrievable and avoid residual cement below the gingiva. If the screw channel position is unfavourable aesthetically or occlusally, a cement-retained solution on a custom abutment can be planned.

Which implant systems do you work with?

We design using the implant libraries in 3Shape, Exocad and Dentalwings. Feel free to ask us before the case whether your system is available in the library.

Can I order implant zirconia with a conventional impression?

Yes. An impression taken with impression copings, or a model with analogues, is scanned in our lab and brought into the digital workflow.

Send us your next case

Send us your intraoral scan (STL/PLY) or impression, and we will send the design back for your approval. For questions, call +90 542 329 30 56 or write to [email protected].
